Welcome to our weekly Friday Check-in for January 24th, 2025 ✅
If you are new to Soul Care, WELCOME!! We are so glad you are here. We have a weekly rhythm of checking in together on Fridays. We use Mindy Caliguire's Page, Person, Plan framework to create a weekly rhythm and prepare ourselves for Sabbath rest.
Here’s your weekly invitation to slow down, take a few deep breaths, and spend these next few minutes practicing soul care.
Let's begin with,
Page: An Invitation to Reflection
Today, read Mark 4:35-41 (CEB):
Later that day, when evening came, Jesus said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” They left the crowd and took him in the boat just as he was. Other boats followed along.
Gale-force winds arose, and waves crashed against the boat so that the boat was swamped. But Jesus was in the rear of the boat, sleeping on a pillow. They woke him up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re drowning?”
He got up and gave orders to the wind, and he said to the lake, “Silence! Be still!” The wind settled down and there was a great calm. Jesus asked them, “Why are you frightened? Don’t you have faith yet?”
Overcome with awe, they said to each other, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey him!”
Spend a few minutes journaling in response to this passage:
- What stands out to you most? Is there a particular word or phrase?
- As you read through it a second time… ask God, “to what area of my life does that particular word or phrase connect?”
- And as you read a third time, be asking God, “Is there an invitation for me?” Is there a response of some kind that God is inviting you into?
Next up is,
Person: An Invitation to Connection
We are meditating on the theme “ARISE” this month and intentionally looking for where God is at work, where God’s Light is arising like the dawn.
In today’s passage, notice that the winds arose... a fear-inducing storm arose. The disciples cried out. Then, Jesus arose from sleep to stop the storm, to speak “Peace,” and create calm where there was a sense of overwhelm, fear, and helplessness. Where is fear arising within you lately? What area of your life, or which relationships, feel chaotic, overwhelming, raging.... what feels like it renders you helpless? Talk to Jesus about your response to these questions. Rouse him even, with writing your own lament or prayer of petition. Where do you need Jesus to step in and speak “Peace”? Where do you need Jesus to intervene and create calm? Visualize him doing that now.
Finally we have,
Plan: An Invitation to Intention
“Sing to the Lord a new song!” Have you been singing/humming this past week? Keep it up! As Team Soul Care continues to pursue excellence in this new year, we are asking ourselves these questions (from the New Year’s Day retreat guide) each Monday:
- What’s important about this week?
- What must get done?
- What’s important about the future?
Are you still finding your footing as the new year proceeds? How might you be intentional each week to reflect on “this moment in time”; to connect deeply with God, others, and yourself; and to put life-giving habits/disciplines in place that care for the well-being of your soul? We hope that by sharing these questions with you, you’re encouraged to keep clarifying, reflecting, and praying!
We are in this together. Our team’s praying blessings over you.
Thanks for checking in today. Great job!
