Welcome to our weekly Friday Check-in for February 14th, 2025 ✅

If you are new to Soul Care, WELCOME!! We are so glad you are here. We have a weekly rhythm of checking in together on Fridays. We use Mindy Caliguire's Page, Person, Plan framework to create a weekly rhythm and prepare ourselves for Sabbath rest.

How has your week been? Let’s take the next few minutes to check in... take a deep breath, maybe stretch a little, and quiet yourself before the Lord.

Let's begin with,

Page: An Invitation to Reflection

As you continue meditating on the word “fearless,” keep that word in mind as you read today’s passage from Mark 10:32-45 (MSG):

Back on the road, they set out for Jerusalem. Jesus had a head start on them, and they were following, puzzled and not just a little afraid. He took the Twelve and began again to go over what to expect next. “Listen to me carefully. We’re on our way up to Jerusalem. When we get there, the Son of Man will be betrayed to the religious leaders and scholars. They will sentence him to death. Then they will hand him over to the Romans, who will mock and spit on him, give him the third degree, and kill him. After three days he will rise alive.”

James and John, Zebedee’s sons, came up to him. “Teacher, we have something we want you to do for us.”

“What is it? I’ll see what I can do.”

“Arrange it,” they said, “so that we will be awarded the highest places of honor in your glory—one of us at your right, the other at your left.”

Jesus said, “You have no idea what you’re asking. Are you capable of drinking the cup I drink, of being baptized in the baptism I’m about to be plunged into?”

“Sure,” they said. “Why not?”

Jesus said, “Come to think of it, you will drink the cup I drink, and be baptized in my baptism. But as to awarding places of honor, that’s not my business. There are other arrangements for that.”

When the other ten heard of this conversation, they lost their tempers with James and John. Jesus got them together to settle things down. “You’ve observed how godless rulers throw their weight around,” he said, “and when people get a little power how quickly it goes to their heads. It’s not going to be that way with you. Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. Whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave. That is what the Son of Man has done: He came to serve, not to be served—and then to give away his life in exchange for many who are held hostage.”

Spend a few minutes journaling in response to this passage:
  • What stands out to you most? Is there a particular word or phrase?
  • As you read through it a second time… ask God, “to what area of my life does that particular word or phrase connect?”
  • And as you read a third time, be asking God, “Is there an invitation for me?” Is there a response of some kind that God is inviting you into?
Next up is,
Person: An Invitation to Connection

Ask the Lord to bring to mind someone in your life that you might label as “fearless”... What might you learn from their example in this regard? How can you connect with them this week and thank them for their fearlessness?

Take a minute in silence to reflect on this and bring your reflections to God in prayer.

Finally we have,
Plan: An Invitation to Intention

Another way we can practice fearlessness is by trusting and believing that God - a power greater than ourselves - can restore us to sanity, wholeness, and bring peace.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand…” (Isaiah 41:10).
Take 2 minutes of silence and stillness to use this verse as a breath prayer. Begin to focus on your breathing.

As you inhale, pray: I trust you, Lord;
As you exhale, pray: Renew my strength.

Repeat these phrases as you continue to breathe in and out. You can also choose another phrase from the verse to make the breath prayer your own. Amen!

Thanks for checking in today.

Have a blessed Friday,
