Welcome to our weekly Friday Check-in for October 18th, 2024 ✅

If you are new to Soul Care, WELCOME!! We are so glad you are here. We have a weekly rhythm of checking in together on Fridays. We use Mindy Caliguire's Page, Person, Plan framework to create a weekly rhythm and prepare ourselves for Sabbath rest.

Let's check in - how are you doing? How does your body feel right now? Take the next few minutes to check in with yourself and enter into the presence of God's Spirit. If it helps to light a candle or adopt a prayerful posture, do so!

Page: An Invitation to Reflection

Read or listen to Psalm 130:

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord.
2  Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications!
3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
  Lord, who could stand?
4 But there is forgiveness with you,
so that you may be revered.
5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
  and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
more than those who watch for the morning,
more than those who watch for the morning.
7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is great power to redeem.
8 It is he who will redeem Israel
  from all its iniquities.

Spend a few seconds in silence before journaling in response to this passage:
  • Is there a word or phrase that stands out to you most? Hold that word/phrase in meditation for a moment.
  • Read the passage a second time, asking "How does this word or phrase connect to my life right now?"
  • And finally, read the text a third time, asking "Is there an invitation for me? Is there a response of some kind that God is inviting me into?"
Person: An Invitation to Connection

Take one minute of silence and ask the Lord to bring a person or a few people to mind. Allow their face(s) to surface in your mind's eye. Holding them in your heart and mind, begin to pray the Lord's Prayer on their behalf:

Our Father in heaven, may Your name be honored in ______'s life. May Your kingdom come soon in ______'s life. May Your will be done in ______'s life on earth, just as it is in heaven. Give ______ the provision they need for today. And forgive ______, as they forgive others. Don't let ______ yield to temptation, but deliver them from the evil one. Manifest Your glory forever and ever in ______'s life. Amen.

Feel free to pray this in a way that's comfortable to you, praying for them by name, for their needs and their relationship with God.

Plan: An Invitation to Intention
In response to this month's Semi-Silent Retreat theme "Midnight Oil" and as we continue to meditate on the Lord's Prayer and Psalm 77, let's intentionally explore and practice good sleep hygiene.
What is sleep hygiene?

Sleep hygiene refers to healthy sleep habits that help you get a good night’s sleep.

Try to follow all 10 tips in this article on Sleep Hygiene, but at the very least, begin to do the first 3:

  1. Keep a consistent sleep schedule.
  2. Create a relaxing bedtime routine — and stick with it.
  3. Turn off electronic devices before you go to sleep.
Which tip resonates most with you right now? As with all our invitations to intention, the key here is to do this consistently every day this week until the next Friday check in. Don't forget to jot down a few notes about how you feel before, during, and after this exercise each day.

In Matthew 11:28 Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” In the remaining minutes, come to Jesus... to ask for and receive the rest you need. May it be so - Amen!

Thanks for checking in today.

Have a blessed Friday,

Team Soul Care
