Welcome to our weekly Friday Check-in for November 22nd, 2024 âś…

If you are new to Soul Care, WELCOME!! We are so glad you are here. We have a weekly rhythm of checking in together on Fridays. We use Mindy Caliguire's Page, Person, Plan framework to create a weekly rhythm and prepare ourselves for Sabbath rest.

How has your week been? It’s time to pause, take a deep breath, and spend the next few minutes resting in the Lord’s presence...

Page: An Invitation to Reflection

We are continuing to meditate on Psalm 46 this month. Reread the psalm, perhaps in a different translation, and ask God’s Spirit to help you “be still and know” as you enter into this time of prayer and reflection...

Today’s reading is James 5:7-12 (MSG):

Meanwhile, friends, wait patiently for the Master’s Arrival. You see farmers do this all the time, waiting for their valuable crops to mature, patiently letting the rain do its slow but sure work. Be patient like that. Stay steady and strong. The Master could arrive at any time.
Friends, don’t complain about each other. A far greater complaint could be lodged against you, you know. The Judge is standing just around the corner.
Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You’ve heard, of course, of Job’s staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.
And since you know that he cares, let your language show it. Don’t add words like “I swear to God” to your own words. Don’t show your impatience by concocting oaths to hurry up God. Just say yes or no. Just say what is true. That way, your language can’t be used against you.
Spend a few minutes journaling in response to this passage:
  • First Reading: What if anything stands out to you? Is there a particular word or phrase?
  • Second Reading: As you read through it again… ask God, “to what area of my life does that particular word or phrase connect?”
  • Third Reading: And as you read a third time, be asking God, “Is there an invitation for me?” Is there a response of some kind that God is inviting you into?

Person: An Invitation to Connection

Intentionally connect with a friend or relative to discuss the Scriptures above.

Plan: An Invitation to Intention

The theme of this month’s Semi-Silent Retreat was “LOOK”. How might you intentionally LOOK for God’s presence to be flowing in and around you in everyday life? What are some of your soul care rhythms right now that help you LOOK for God?

Take 2 minutes of silence to look right now...
What are 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste? Now, breathe deep and know: You can hush the hurry and worry, and be still because God is God.

Inhale: Still my soul
Exhale: You are God.

Spend as much time as you need breathing and praying in this present moment. Amen.

Thank you for pausing to check in today. Blessings to you!

Have a blessed Friday,

Team Soul Care
